[You know what's fun? Not finding dead bodies when you go exploring the resort with someone.

What's not fun is finding out there was a body anyway.

So here's Minato, looking for Tsugumi so he can say:]

Hey... thanks for helping me out out there.

[Tsumugi can be found outside of her room, about to open it and go in. She pauses to turn around and smile politely at Minato.]

Oh, you're welcome. But... it's plain to see it was a team effort.

[There's no Ultimate Detective here to carry them through investigations after all.]

That's true...

[It's just a shame what it was they were all working towards.]

Still, I think it'd be harder to do things like this without someone else there.

Well, investigation partners are a tradition for a reason.

[She knows she'll be the only one to get the joke, but it brings a slightly more genuine smile to her face.]

[He looks pretty solidly puzzled at that, because yeah, he doesn't get the joke. That's after his time.]

I had no idea... I guess I'm pretty out of the loop with the genre.

In the mystery genre, for the sake of the audience, it's good for the detective to have a partner to explain things to and banter with.

[Not quite what she was referencing, but it's better to explain it in a more broad sense of the term.]

Oh... like Holmes and Watson?

[He's at least familiar with that much.]

I see what you mean, yeah... I guess it does kind of work out better that way.

Yeah, like them! Or a certain blue suited lawyer and his spirit medium assistant... or... well. Geez... there's so many references I could make here, it's hard to choose.

[There is a growing look of amusement on Tsumugi's face.]

Right, right! Without a pair, you run the risk of the audience getting bored or confused at the detective's thought process. It's plain risky.

[Oh... he knows that series too.]

So I guess that does make us investigation partners, huh...? I'll do my best to be a decent Watson to your Holmes.

[jumpedtheshark]

[Her face goes through a few emotions too fast to follow, before eventually settling on a surprised smile.]

Well... I'm not the Ultimate Detective or Conan... but I'll plainly do my best!

[He offers her a small smile at that, shaking his head.]

You don't have to be the best detective ever... you still helped me out a lot today, so thank you.

S-such a pure answer...! Are you sure you're not the Holmes? That was definitely the kind of thing a protagonist would say.

No, I'm definitely not a protagonist. [Ha.]

I think a supporting role suits me much better, to be honest.

Well... I think I'm a better supporting role too... and between us, I'm the more plain one, right? This isn't a harem anime or dating sim, so a plain protagonist is no good!
