Frozen water, I guess...? That's probably the easiest way to describe it. Like rain, but... it's too cold, so it ends up like this instead.

... Guess it's not as useful as rain.

[Snow probably wouldn't have, practically speaking, been appreciated on the Mud Whale, huh?]

"Useful"...? You mean like...to replenish water supplies and things like that?

I guess so... I've just never really thought about rain that way before.

[... Ouni just gives Minato a look along the lines of what kind of world have you been living in—a world with more water, apparently.

Also, he's casually swiping the blanket now because okay yeah, stubbornness over, he's really cold.]

[Minato doesn't even bat an eye.

He just makes a contemplative noise as he lowers his hand, tucking it into his pocket instead.

No snow, and lots of rain conservation...]

Do you live in a desert back home...?

As he wraps the blanket around his shoulders, he stares at Minato for a few moments, as if thinking over something, before:]

Sand Ocean.

[... That's kind of an evocative phrase. Minato has never seen a sand ocean in his life, and yet... he can imagine it. An ocean of sand...such a thing could really exist..?

Of course, it must. From what Minato's seen from Ouni, reticent as he may be, he doesn't lie, offering up his opinion (when he does) very bluntly.

(But honestly...what must that be like...?)]

... I see... a little, I mean, I think. I've never seen a sand ocean, but... I think I can imagine what that must be like, at least a little.

[A beat.]

Does that mean you live on an island?

[Ouni continues to eye Minato oddly—almost warily, frankly.

Also here's a hint, Minato: it's very sandy.]

Yes.

[... On Ouni's end, it's still strange to think of these people who have never heard of the Sand Ocean. What sort of place are they from, if not surrounded by sand?]

[Water, Ouni. So much water.]

... Me too. [Island life...!! His island life sounds a lot less questionable than Ouni's, though.]

Mine's surrounded by a water ocean, though, not a sand one.

... Where rain comes from?

[His understanding of a water ocean primarily comes from that one time Shuan yelled about it to him while basically choking him, so.]

Yes, that's right. [He supposes that's true! Not what he usually immediately thinks of when he thinks of the ocean, but still true.]

I guess that must be the same for you guys too... there's an ocean somewhere where the rain comes from...?

[Not like he's ever seen it or given proof that it exists beyond rain.]

[... Hm.]

It must exist somewhere... but I can't imagine never seeing it. [That's a trip.] Especially stuck on an island...

Maybe you'll get the chance to someday. Do you want to?

[... Does he want to?

Yes. The answer, in Ouni's mind, is immediately yes. Even though the world didn't turn out to be a place of hope—and is instead a place that has, time and time again, crushed his and the Mud Whale's dreams—his fascination for it continues to burn, like a candle about to smoulder but refusing to die.

Whether it'll ever actually happen, though, is a different story. Out loud, the answer is more complicated than a yes or no. There are too many feelings, too many things he doesn't know how to describe; neither does he want to, to a virtual stranger.

So, he remains silent.]

[The silence is strangely heavy. In truth? Minato has no idea what's going on in Ouni's head. What is he thinking? How does he feel about it? It feels like that one little question somehow has a weight that's hard for Ouni to answer.

He's quiet for a moment in response, expression contemplative--and then quietly, he nods, and:]

If you do, I hope you get the chance to see it someday. And anything else you might want to see, and all of those things that you don't even know you want to see.

[Everyone deserves to do at least that much with his life.]

I know it doesn't mean much when it's just hopes, but... that's what I hope anyway.

[I want to see the outside world. And yet, the more he learns, the more impossible of a dream it becomes. (Even if the people of the Mud Whale find a place to belong... he will never be accepted there. He knows that now—that that is his curse as a Daimonas, whatever that may be.)

He stares at Minato for a few moments, his expression pensive, before he looks away. Quietly, as if to himself,]

It won't happen.
